Back for its fourth year, the annual Art Licks Weekend celebrates the contribution that emerging artists and grassroots projects make to the cultural life of London. For this three day festival artist-run projects, curatorial collectives and young galleries across the city open up their spaces for the public, with free events and exhibitions of young artists’ work.
I’m taking part this year through my work with London Sculpture Workshop. We will be holding a series of FREE events under the banner Matter Talks, which will act as a testbed for our forthcoming strands of outreach and artist development activity. Here’s our programme:
Matter Talks launches on the opening night of the festival with a talk by Giles Corby on Making Things and a tour of London Sculpture Workshop.
- Workshop tour: 6pm – 6.45pm
- Making Things talk: 7pm – 8pm
On Friday, London Sculpture Workshop will open its doors to individuals, schools, community and artist-led groups for tours of the workshop.
On Saturday 1 October and Sunday 2 October, LSW will host a weekend of artist development surgeries focused on materials, techniques, equipment, marketing and developing proposals.
Free, bookable, 30 minute appointments will be hosted by members of LSW staff and external experts and will be posted on LSW’s Eventbrite pages soon for artists to sign up to. Please note: it is imperative that artists send information on their practice in advance of these sessions to firstname.lastname@example.org
The bookable sessions are as follows:
- Giles Corby, LSW Technical Director: metal work and metal casting
- Robert Worley, Artist: woodwork, casting plaster and concrete
- Jane Morrow, LSW Development Curator: developing proposals, fundraising, signposting and marketing your work *Saturday only*
