Avenue Art B&B
What is it?
Avenue is a B&B project created specifically with creative practitioners and arts organisations in mind, run by me!
Why would you do that?
Avenue is designed to be a budget-friendly, artistically-supportive environment which enables much-needed resources to be repurposed towards continuing to make great work happen here in Northern Ireland.
Avenue aims to support introductions to Belfast’s cultural landscape, the artists working in the city and its diverse creative organisations.
Avenue is also my home and a renovation project; a labour of love (apparently!) that will – in time – host a residency programme and a series of commissions.
Why don’t you just advertise it on Airbnb?
This is an extension of my work in a culturally-pioneering city that is under budgetary pressures. If I can undercut all the hotels and Airbnb’s whilst offering something unique and genuinely supportive, I can contribute a little to the infrastructure. It’s also a huge privilege to work with all of the amazing people that we do, and I can’t get enough!
Who is it for?
- Exhibitors
- Performers
- Curators
- Researchers
- Tutors
- Facilitators
- Designers
- (I refuse to use creatives as a noun)
When?
All year round. Obviously I have limited capacity, so at busy times, e.g. during festivals, it’s best to get in early. Booking through me directly is probably easiest, and certainly cheapest. If you’re booking a number of nights, or repeatedly, then I’ll do you a deal.
Where is it?
North Belfast, just off the Antrim Road and accessible wherever guests are coming from, or wherever they’re going next – by foot, bus, car, train, boat or air. There are also parks, reservoirs, bars, cafes, restaurants and large supermarkets very nearby.
This project has thus far been supported by Golden Thread Gallery, Catalyst Arts, Digital Arts Studios, Belfast Exposed and Queen’s University with additional bookings from individual artists, curators and researchers from the UK and Europe.
