Panel discussion, David Bethell at Wolverhampton Art Gallery
I have been invited to return to WAG to participate in a panel discussion about the work of Stoke on Trent based artist David Bethell on 25 July 2015. David’s solo exhibition, Dr Bird: Conquering Clouds, runs at the gallery from 2 May – 8 August 2015.
This exhibition of new work is the result of a three week residency that I awarded to David in March 2013 through the Turning Point West Midlands Artist Development initiative. David spent time researching and working with the Wolverhampton Art Gallery collection. His work is often about land, landscape and our place within it and the exhibition is an artist’s response to the Victorian and geology collections alongside ongoing concerns relating to human influences on the rural landscape. You can read more about the exhibition here: http://newartwm.org/artist/david-bethell/
David was also selected as one of top artists working in the West Midlands by Turning Point West Midlands as part of ‘On the Radar: Volume 1’. I wrote an essay on his work to accompany this ‘minigraph’ series. You can download it HERE.
David is currently studying for a postgraduate degree at Central St Martins, London.
