Shortlist announced for Ireland’s representation at La Biennale di Venezia in 2024

DELIGHTED to announce that Ciara Hickey and I have been shortlisted to take the amazing Array Collective to Venice 2024.

Culture Ireland in partnership with the Arts Council is pleased to announce that the following candidates have been shortlisted in the selection process for Ireland’s representation at the 60th International Art Exhibition at Venice, La Biennale di Venezia in 2024:

 

  • Belinda Quirke, Solstice with artist, Niamh McCann
  • Sara McCrory and and Valerie Claffey with artist, Oisín Byrne
  • Valerie Byrne, National Sculpture Factory and Emma Moore with artist, Doireann O’Malley
  • Ciara Hickey and Jane Morrow with Array Collective
  • Mary Hickson and Miranda Driscoll with artist, Ailbhe Ní Bhriain
  • Sara Greavu, Project Arts Centre with artist, Eimear Walshe

 

In late April the shortlisted teams will present their detailed proposals to a panel comprising representatives of Culture Ireland, the Arts Council and international experts: Linsey Young, Curator of British Contemporary Art, TATE and Etienne Bernard, Director, Frac Bretagne. The final selection for Ireland’s representation will be made shortly thereafter.

The Venice Biennale serves as a global showcase and offers a prominent platform for Irish artists to engage with international audiences, curators and gallerists. It also offers a unique opportunity to stimulate discussion and influence future global trends. This is reflected by the financial support of €390,000 awarded to the selected project.

The 60th International Art Exhibition at Venice, La Biennale di Venezia in 2024 will be curated by Adriano Pedrosa, the overall theme is yet to be announced.

Ireland at Venice (Ireland’s national representation at the Venice Biennale) is an initiative of Culture Ireland in partnership with the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon. Culture Ireland and the Arts Council are committed to building on Ireland’s growing reputation at previous Art Biennales. Last year’s representation GATHER by Niamh O’Malley with Temple Bar Gallery gained global acclaim and is currently touring nationally.
